GRANDVILLE, Mich. — Grandville school leaders say precautions are being taken after two separate threats were found earlier this week.
In a letter sent to parents, Superintendent Roger Bearup and Principal Adam Lancto said the first threat was discovered Monday. A note was written on a toilet seat in one of the school bathrooms, saying, "The shooting on 12/15/23 was no one's fault."
The Grandville Police Department was contacted and an investigation is underway. Officials say detectives have been following several leads.
Later on Monday, a photo was taken and posted to social media that allegedly used a racial slur and included a threat. Detectives are also investigating that incident.
School officials say it is unclear if the two threats are connected, but the possibility is being investigated.
"Grandville Public Schools does not support any forms of racism or violence and those found to have committed these current acts will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," reads the letter sent to parents. "We remain committed to ensuring that every person who enters our doors feels safe, confident, and has a sense of belonging."
Additional security will be placed in the school while these threats are investigated, according to school leaders.
