KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is currently investigating two separate shootings that took place late Saturday night into early Sunday morning and left seven people injured.
According to police, at 11:58 p.m. on Saturday officers were dispatched to a strip mall in the 2900 block of Gull Road for reports of shots being fired. Witnesses said they heard between eight and 20 gunshots.
When officers arrived, they said there was evidence of a large gathering and gunfire in the parking lot.
Shortly after KDPS responded to the incident, a man and a woman showed up at a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. They confirmed they were at the Gull Road incident.
Police said multiple vehicles were damaged in the shooting and shell casings were collected as evidence.
According to KDPS, a second incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday inside a building in the 1100 block of W. Patterson Street.
Police said four men and one woman arrived at local hospitals with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers said one victim, who was identified as the target, said they returned fire in the altercation.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident, but several firearms were recovered from the scene.
KDPS said the shootings don't appear to be random and there's no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
