VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — One man is in custody after he intentionally hit two people with his truck, killing one of them, deputies said.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to a home in the 46000 block of County Road 665 for a report that a man hit a woman with his truck and then drove it into a house.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they said they found one of the victims, a 28-year-old woman from Decatur, lying in the yard. She was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries, deputies said.
The second victim, a 28-year-old man from Paw Paw, had also been hit by the truck, but his injuries weren't life-threatening, deputies said.
The suspect, a 33-year-old man from Mattawan, was taken into custody by the deputies.
According to the sheriff's office, the initial investigation shows the suspect went to the house looking for his girlfriend, but she wasn't there. An altercation took place between the suspect and the two victims in the driveway, deputies said.
The suspect then intentionally hit both victims with his truck, leaving the woman injured in the yard. The man tried to escape into the home after being hit the first time, and the suspect crashed his truck into the home trying to hit him again, deputies said.
The truck was then disabled and the suspect stayed at the scene.
When the suspect was taken into custody, deputies found he had methamphetamine on him and he also admitted to using it before going to the home.
Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and the suspect is being held at the Van Buren County Jail.
