KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The missing Cedar Springs 17-year-old, Penelope "Penny" Wise, has been found safe after going missing in May.
The Kent County Sheriff's Office said she was found around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Deputies said the initial investigation showed Wise had been living with an older man in a home in the City of Rockford.
On Sunday, deputies said Wise left the home on a bicycle and was seen by a community member who called the police.
Bryan Muir, an undersheriff at KCSO, said there's no connection they know of right now between Wise and the man she was staying with.
Muir said the man was unknown to deputies in their investigation and her family doesn't know him.
He said they're working to determine if Wise was with him the entire time she was missing, or if it had been more recent.
Wise had gone missing around 6 p.m. on May 31 from her home in Cedar Springs after a small disagreement, said KCSO Chief Deputy Jason Kelley.
Security footage was recovered that showed her walking on Rockford Park Drive, about five miles away from her home, later that evening.
Kelley said she shed some clothing when she left her home near Morley Park.
She had been last seen on camera walking near the Corner Bar in Rockford on June 1.
Six weeks after Wise left her home on foot, the reward for tips leading to her return was increased from $1,000 to $3,000.
Her parents said she was not allowed to have a phone, but they found one she had been hiding before she went missing.
Wise's parents said she struggles with her mental health and that while she had left home on her own before, it had never been for more than a few hours.
Deputies did not suspect any foul play and said she left on her own accord.
KCSO said they will release full details on Monday, as detectives are actively investigating.
