Portage police investigating death of woman found in abandoned building

PORTAGE, Mich. — The Portage Department of Public Safety is investigating the death of a 25-year-old woman found in the vestibule of an abandoned building on Sept. 30. 

PDPS said the woman has been identified as Destiny Naigus of Plainwell. 

According to police, she was believed to have been in the Kalamazoo/Portage area for several weeks, driving in the 2009 Honda Accord pictured here:

PDPS said around 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 30, police responded to a property check on a vacant office building in the 200 block of Admiral Avenue. 

When police conducted the check, they said they found Naigus's body in an unsecured vestibule of the building. 

PDPS's Detective Bureau and crime lab personnel were called to the scene to investigate her death. 

Police said Naigus's cause of death will be determined in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner's Office after they receive the results of her autopsy. 

PDPS said there's no threat to public safety.
