GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A victim has been identified and a suspect has been arrested in a stabbing that took place Thursday evening in the 900 block of Oakhill Street Southeast in Grand Rapids, authorities say.
Grand Rapids police were investigating a call that came in as a stabbing at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 26. That night there was an adult male person of interest in custody and an adult female was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kent County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the incident as a homicide.
Following an investigation by GRPD's Major Case Team, the victim has been identified as 58-year-old Esther Claxton of Grand Rapids and the suspect as 67-year-old Robert Marion of Grand Rapids.
The Kent County Prosecutor's Office has indicated Marion will be charged with Open Murder. He is in custody and was arraigned in the 61st District Court Saturday morning.
According to GRPD, the suspect and victim had a longstanding relationship and the incident developed from a verbal altercation.
