GRAND RAPIDS TWP, Mich. — Surveillance video shows a second round of break-ins that happened in the Brown Parking lot of Aquinas College.

Three cars were broken into on October 31 around 4 am. This is in addition to the 10 cars that were broken into around 6 a.m. on Sunday, October 29.

Surveillance video shows five suspects pulling up in two separate cars to the parking lot along Robinson Road SE in Grand Rapids Township.

The Kent County Sheriff says Aquinas Security called 911 and alerted the sheriff's office to the break-in. The sheriff's office said items were stolen.

A deputy traveling along Fulton Street observed a sedan traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued to flee. The pursuit was terminated for safety and police believe the car was stolen out of Grand Rapids.

The sheriff's office believes the two cars involved were also involved in incidents within other jurisdictions.

Earlier this week, Director of Campus Safety Kevin Kwiatkowski said around 6 a.m. Sunday, three cars rolled into the parking lot near the college's Performing Arts Center and an unknown number of people got out and broke into ten cars.

"As soon as we found out who we notified every student involved. We had officers check all the lights, just to make sure there was only isolated to this area. And we did notify all the students involved. And then we sent all the emergency messages to the campus," said Kwiatkowski.

Kasy Shadduck was one of the students whose car was broken into over the weekend.

"Saw this first and I was like 'great, there's glass everywhere, all over the place,'” said Shadduck. "It was a bit shocking to say the least, I feel like now anybody can get in my car if they want to."

Shadduck believes more cameras should be added to the campus in better places.

"I think more cameras. Two hundred cameras? Sure, that's fine. But like, what are the cameras that are saving our stuff? Like the parking lots where the stuff actually happening?" said Shadduck.

Kwiatkowski says he and other public safety officials know there is a trend of car break-ins in the City of Grand Rapids and tried to urge people to protect their cars as best as possible.

"We always stress that you always want to lock all your valuables, take them with you, or put them out of sight and make sure you lock your vehicle," said Kwiatkowski.

Aquinas College is working with both Grand Rapids Police and the Kent County Sheriff on both of these cases.
