An Oakland County jury today acquitted a 71-year-old Waterford man on a charge of reckless driving causing a death in an crash that killed Michigan State Police Trooper Chad Wolf.

Lawyers for Charles Warren argued the case was a tragic accident, not a crime, and jurors agreed. Wolf died Aug. 28, 2015 of injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators said Warren was pulling a trailer north on I-75 near Clarkston when it knocked Wolf from his police motorcycle and dragged him for more than four miles. Wolf, 38, was a married father of four children.

More than 3,500 people attended Wolf's funeral, with police officers from across the country coming in to pay their respects.

Warren made news last year when he was arrested in northern Michigan after police spotted him repeatedly failing to signal and running a stop sign. At the time of his arrest, he was free on bond with the condition that he would not drive.
