KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers located and arrested a 23-year-old man after he fled to Oregon. He is suspected of killing his roommate.
On the evening of Sept. 4, officers were called to perform a wellness check at an address in the 4300-block of Hidden Hills Drive.
When they arrived, police found Solomon LeFlore, a 35-year-old Kalamazoo resident dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Detectives pinned down LeFlore’s roommate as a suspect in the days following. They soon discovered he had fled the state, possibly heading to Oregon.
Kalamazoo detectives traveled to Oregon and were able to find him. With the help of Oregon State Police, they took him into custody on a rural highway in the eastern part of the state on Sept. 10.
The suspect is currently lodged in a county jail in Oregon on murder and weapon charges. He will be held there until his extradition back to Michigan.
Police say his name is being withheld pending arraignment.
“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Solomon LeFlore’s family and friends following the untimely death of their loved one,” said Deputy Chief Dave Boysen, of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
“We also appreciate the Oregon State Police and the local sheriff departments who offered their assistance in this investigation.”
