1 dead after crashing into tree in Ionia Township

Deputies said the passenger, a 30-year-old Lyons woman, was taken to a local hospital for internal injuries and is in stable condition.

IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — One man is dead after crashing into a tree Saturday morning. 

According to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office, around 10 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on E Riverside Drive near Bugbee Road. 

Deputies said the driver, a 27-year-old Lyons man, lost control of the Chevy Equinox he was driving and crashed into a tree. 

The driver died at the scene and the passenger, a 30-year-old Lyons woman, was taken to a local hospital for internal injuries. Deputies said she's in stable condition. 

According to troopers, speed and seat belt use are believed to be factors in the crash.
