MUSKEGON, Mich. — Muskegon firefighters worked Saturday afternoon to put out a boat fire in Muskegon. The fire broke out around 12:56 p.m.
In a post to Facebook, they described the fire as "well-involved." They said a large column of smoke was visible from the fire station.
The City of Muskegon Fire Department said a 24-year-old was cooking aboard the sailboat when a fire broke out, burning 60% of his body.
The fire occurred near 1204 W. Western on Muskegon Lake. That area is also where the Adelaide Pointe development project is.
Officials said the fire was successfully put out after about half an hour. The boat sank as a result of the fire.
