KENT COUNTY, Mich. — A total of 19 dogs who were rescued from a truck are now looking for their forever homes just in time for the holidays.
The dogs had been living in a truck with their owner, Carolyn Newsome, who was taken into custody and charged with animal abuse on Oct. 14. Newsome agreed to surrender the dogs last week.
Police originally said 17 dogs were found in the truck—but one dog ended up having puppies, bringing the total to 19.
The dogs have been with the Kent County Animal Shelter since October. In a post on Facebook, the shelter posted some of the dogs' photos and said they would "love to spend their time home this Thanksgiving instead of in the shelter for the long weekend."

If you're interested in adopting one of these dogs, you can visit them at the shelter from 1 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
To help encourage adoption, all pets are adoptable for a reduced $50 fee through Dec. 1. That covers a Kent County dog license, flea and tick preventative, and heartworm preventative.
"If you are ready to welcome a new best friend into your life, our compassionate and knowledgeable staff are here to help you," said Angela Hollinshead, director of the shelter.
