KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Police have made an arrest in a suspicious house fire.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office says they were called to a home in the 200 block of 7 Mile Road NW on Sept. 23 around 2 a.m.

The home was engulfed in flames when they arrived, but all occupants were able to make it out safely.

Fire investigators say the flames began from a firework or mortar that was launched into the home from outside.

On Thursday, deputies arrest a 19-year-old Plainfield Township man on charges of Arson in the 2nd Degree.

Police say the suspect and homeowners knew each other.

He will be arraigned in the 63rd District Court at a later date.
