2 men arrested after shooting at objects on Battle Creek playground

According to police, 17 shell casings were recovered from the apartment complex where the shooting happened and the SUV the men were driving.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Two men were arrested on Saturday after a call to police about early morning gunfire led to a traffic stop, according to the City of Battle Creek. 

Just before 4 a.m. Battle Creek police responded to the 200 block of Taft Court because a witness reported seeing two men standing outside an SUV shooting at objects on a playground inside an apartment complex. 

Police found the SUV a short distance from the apartment complex and did a traffic stop. Inside the SUV, they found a rifle and ammunition between the 19-year-old driver and 23-year-old passenger. 

According to police, 17 shell casings were recovered from the apartment complex and the SUV. 

Both men were arrested and are facing firearm-related charges. The 19-year-old driver is facing additional charges for operating while intoxicated.
