PORTLAND, Mich. — Two teens are recovering in the hospital Saturday morning after a single-car crash Friday night in Ionia County.
The Ionia County Sheriff Department tells 13 On Your Side that a teen driver likely fell asleep at the wheel around 7:37 p.m. Friday night, causing their car to go off the freeway and hit a guardrail.
The crash happened on I-96 at Portland Road, west of the City of Portland.
The 18-year-old driver and their teen passenger were taken to the hospital, but police did not indicate how serious their injuries were.
