23-year-old dead after apartment fire in Kalamazoo

After entering, first responders located a 23-year-old man inside the apartment. First responders made efforts to rescue him. However, he was pronounced dead.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — Saturday morning first responders in Kalamazoo responded to a structure fire on S Drake Road.

The call came in around 7:57 a.m. Deputies from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office assisted fire personnel with gaining entry into the apartment where the fire originated.

After entering, first responders located a 23-year-old man inside the apartment. First responders made efforts to rescue him. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other injuries reported in the incident.

Fire Marshalls from Oshtemo Township, and Kalamazoo Township, responded to the scene; as well as a representative of the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office said the fire appears to be accidental. They are still investigating and asked that anyone with information contact them or Silent Observer.
