OTSEGO COUNTY, Mich. — 25 kayakers are safe Thursday after the group of four adults and 21 children ran into some trouble, leaving multiple kayakers overturned.
Allegan County Central Dispatch received the call just before 3 p.m. on Thursday. The caller reported overturned kayakers on the Kalamazoo River in Otsego Township.
Authorities said the kayakers had launched from a local business and were on a group outing. Authorities did not say what trouble the kayakers ran into, just that multiple kayakers were in the water needing rescue.
First responders were able to safely get all 25 kayakers to shore with no significant injuries or fatalities. The Allegan County Sheriff's Office said that all kayakers wearing their personal flotation devices helped the rescue go smoothly and successfully.
