Three people are safe after escaping a house fire in South Haven Wednesday night.
South Haven Area Emergency Service Chief, Ron Wise, says the house suffered extensive damage after the fire.
Fire responders were called to the house on Maple Street around 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. Chief Wise suspects the fire started in the attic and had gotten a "fairly good start" when crews arrived.
The house was in unstable structural condition while firefighters were trying to put out the fire and at one point the ceiling collapse, making things even more difficult for responding crews. Due to the condition of the house, Wise says it will be difficult for investigators to learn what caused the fire.
SHAES firefighters were assisted by the Bangor and Covert fire departments -- there were about 35 firefighters trying to put out the fire for nearly five hours.
None of the people inside of the home or responding firefighters were injured in the incident, which is still under investigation.
