8-year-old boy uses money from bake sale to serve spaghetti to unhoused people

8-year-old James Carpenter and his Grandma served Spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and cake to guests at Ionia First United Methodist Church.

IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — A young boy took the money he raised from a bake sale back in June and used it to host a spaghetti dinner Friday night for unhoused people.

8-year-old James Carpenter and his Grandma served Spaghetti, garlic bread, salad and cake to guests at Ionia First United Methodist Church.

James also handed out backpacks with supplies at the event.

He said he just wants to help those in need.

"Because I felt bad for people that don't have homes and all the stuff that we have," said James.

"This has been brewing for two years. The homeless man that he saw was actually when he was six years old, and he's been asking us to do this since then, and we finally got him to say what he wanted to do," said his grandmother, Katie.

James's Grandma said James is not done helping people yet. His next project will be to help local veterans.

She said his next project was inspired by his uncle who is a wounded soldier.
