MUSKEGON, Mich. — The popular dog beach in Muskegon could have its boardwalk and stairs repaired just in time for spring.
Kruse Park is one of a handful of dog friendly beaches in the state, but erosion closed access to the beach in 2020.
Now, the city is spending nearly $40,000 to replace the stairs that were damaged.
"It's been four years since there has been access to the popular dog beach that we have in Muskegon. And so through for our Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, we have decided to move forward with putting steps back in the location to give access to the dog park currently," said Parks and Recreation Director Kyle Karczewski.
Karczewski says that the department is also currently working on a master plan for Kruse Park that will provide "a five year snapshot of what the park can look like, how we get there, and what the residents want to see."
The Muskegon Department of Parks & Recreation hopes to have construction of the new stairs done by May 1.
"This is just the first step of many improvements that park needs. And we want to make sure that it represents what the community wants," Karczewski added.
