Ex-boxer says he beat 64-year-old man in 'self-defense'

Christian Hillman is facing assault with intent to commit great bodily harm charges.

An 18-year-old ex-boxer from Ada says it was self-defense when he nearly beat a 64-year-old man to death last month.

Christian Hillman is facing assault with intent to commit great bodily harm charges.

Sept. 29, police say Hillman and 64-year-old Andy McFarlan of Alto were in a road rage confrontation at the intersection of Whitneyville Avenue and 52nd Street. When McFarlan tried to grab his neck, Hillman told investigators he knocked him to the ground, punched and stomped him.

“I guess I would find that hard to believe knowing Andy, physically, was not in any condition to fight with anybody let alone take on somebody that was much younger,” says Richard Blair, a neighbor in Alto. “He has trouble walking and it’s just not in his nature. I’ve known him for 40 years.”

Hillman told investigators his actions were “self-defense.” That he is an ex-heavyweight boxer and he “lost his s***.”

Family members tell police McFarlan is on a respirator, still has little or no brain activity and they were told his chances for survival are low.

When deputies went to arrest Hillman on the assault charge Wednesday, they say the teenager was using marijuana and he is now also facing a misdemeanor drug charge.
