FENNVILLE, Mich. — It's been the kind of week where many in West Michigan are thankful for the invention of air conditioning. To keep the cool air flowing in your home, experts say a simple tip can help prevent a breakdown.
Derrick Bradley is a busy man.
"Definitely feeling the stress right now on the phone," says Bradley, owner of Bradley's Heating and Cooling in Allegan County.
On Wednesday, he took more than 20 calls before 9 a.m. With the rising heat this week, he's already installed four new A/C units.
"Probably four or five more to do this week," says Bradley.
He's replacing broken hardware that leaves homeowners sweating, or giving cool air to one house in Fennville that didn't have A/C at all.
"The window unit just ain't cutting it anymore," laughs Bradley.
The best way to keep that fan turning is through continuous upkeep. Bradley says A/C units need to be replaced every 15 to 20 years.
In the meantime, you should be cleaning it.
"Making sure the coil is clean," he says. "Spray it off once a year."
An easy task anyone can do in just a few minutes with a tool you most likely already have at home.
"Get a garden hose and just lightly go with the fans so you don't bend them," he suggests.
If you're looking for help with your air conditioner, Bradley says the best way to reach him is with a phone call at (269) 543-7583. You can also send him an email at bradleysheatingandcooling@gmail.com.
