ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Two people are in the hospital after an attempt to pass went wrong in Watson Township Tuesday.

The Allegan County Sheriff's Department said just after 5:45 p.m., an SUV on 116th tried to pass a pickup truck ahead of it.

After turning out, the SUV's driver learned they didn't have enough time to pass and cut back into the lane. That's when the SUV collided with the rear of the pickup truck, causing it to spin out and overturn, authorities said.

An SUV headed in the opposite direction was also struck in the collision, the sheriff's department said.

Two people were sent to area hospitals. One person suffered serious injuries.

Authorities said 116th Avenue between 12th Street and 14th Street were closed as crash scene investigators and other emergency crews cleaned up the scene.
