Man in custody for stabbing, injuring roommate in Almena Township

Deputies said the investigation showed that the two men were both under the influence of alcohol when they had a fight about food and employment.

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — One man was hospitalized and another was arrested after a stabbing in Almena Township on Saturday evening, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies were called to the 29000 block of M43 around 9:10 p.m. for an assault that had taken place. 

According to VBCSO, there was a fight between two roommates and one of them stabbed the other. When deputies arrived, they apprehended the suspect and Michigan State Police began providing medical care to stabilize the victim.

Deputies said the investigation showed that the two men were both under the influence of alcohol when they had a fight about food and employment. 

The suspect, a 22-year-old from Guatemala, stabbed the 21-year-old victim in the chest, VBCSO said. 

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he's said to be in stable but serious condition, deputies said. 

The suspect is being held at the Van Buren County Jail on the charge of assault with intent to commit murder, according to VBCSO.
