Woman takes plea deal after being caught on camera in Amazon van joyride in Grand Rapids

Video shows a woman stealing the truck while the driver is making a delivery, driving off and falling out of the van moments before it crashes.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A woman took a plea deal after stealing an Amazon delivery van in Grand Rapids and promptly crashing it into a transformer back in 2023. The whole thing was captured in a shocking video spread online.

Elizabeth Celeste-Tristen Frasier was charged with one count of unlawfully driving away and auto and failure to stop at a property damage accident for the October crash.

She pled guilty to unlawfully driving away. In exchange, authorities dropped the charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Grand Rapids Police confirmed to 13 ON YOUR SIDE that the incident happened around 1:15 p.m. in October 2023 near Calvin Avenue Southeast and Hazen Street, south of Burton Street.

The theft was captured on a surveillance camera from inside the Amazon van.

Frasier allegedly opened the closed door and hopped inside while the delivery driver was delivering a package.

She doesn't waste any time, quickly sitting down in the driver's seat and fumbling with the gearshift before driving off.

She's captured on security video taking a couple of quick turns and then, with a smile on her face, begins jerking the steering wheel from side to side, causing her to fall out of the open door.

The van crashed shortly after.

Days after the video was posted, Grand Rapids Police say a person was identified in relation to the case. Frasier was quickly charged.

The charges are punishable by 5 years in prison, plus 90 days and/or $100.

"We’re glad the driver is ok after this terrifying incident and we’re working with the Grand Rapids Police Department as they investigate," said Amazon to 13 ON YOUR SIDE.

Information on an arraignment is yet to be released.
