GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Aquinas College officials shared with 13 ON YOUR SIDE Tuesday that more car break-ins occurred on campus, adding to the recent string of break-ins.

The latest break-ins happened early Tuesday morning around 4 a.m.

According to the Kent County Sheriff's Office, two vehicles entered one of the parking lots in Aquinas College and five suspects began breaking into vehicles.

Campus safety saw the break-ins unfolding on security cameras and called 911.

As officers from the Kent County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene, the suspects began to leave in the two separate cars they came in.

Officials say a deputy traveling along Fulton Street saw a sedan traveling at a high speed and attempted to stop it, but it continued to speed away. Shortly after, they said the pursuit became too dangerous and was called off.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office says three vehicles in the Aquinas parking lot were broken into with miscellaneous things stolen.

According to the sheriff's office, it's believed the two vehicles involved in this break-in were involved in incidents in other areas. It's also believed the vehicle that fled from the deputy was stolen out of Grand Rapids at an earlier time.

In an effort to minimize the risk of vehicle break-ins the college said resident vehicles with a valid parking permit may park in the Woodward Lot (27) and the Donnelly Event Lot (28) until further notice. Campus Safety also recommended that vehicles avoid parking in the Browne Lot (23) and the Plymouth Lot (14) overnight for the time being.

The college also acknowledged the emotional impact these crimes can have on students' mental health, offering help from their Counseling, Health & Wellness department.

The case is currently remaining open as deputies continue to investigate. The college encourages students to lock their car doors and remove valuables from their vehicles.
