Police identify man who allegedly shot, killed neighbor during argument in Schoolcraft

The man who apparently shot his neighbor during an argument is now charged with open murder and felony firearms.

SCHOOLCRAFT, Mich. — One person was shot and killed Sunday night during a confrontation with a neighbor. Police have now identified both involved.

Deputies with the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. at a home on E VW Avenue. 

Two men had reportedly been arguing when one of them, 45-year-old Eric Newman, shot the other. The men were neighbors.

The victim, 53-year-old Ronald Erickson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Newman was arraigned Tuesday on charges of open murder and felony firearms. His bail is set at $1,000,000.

Newman will appear in court again on October 15.
