Armed Forces Thanksgiving donates $80,000, announces scholarship for Veterans Day

Since its inception in 2015, the group has donated over $450,000 to the West Michigan Veteran's Coalition.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Armed Forces Thanksgiving is giving $80,000 to the West Michigan Veterans Coalition for Veterans Day this year.

Since it began in 2015, Armed Forces Thanksgiving has donated more than $450,000 to the coalition to help support veterans.

This year, the check was presented to the coalition at a special ceremony featuring East Grand Rapids High School seniors.

In addition to the donation, Armed Forces Thanksgiving announced the development of their Peter G. Ruppert scholarship. Each spring, the scholarship will go to a graduating senior at East Grand Rapids High School who's going into an ROTC program or has an interest in military education.

The scholarship was created in memory of Peter Ruppert, founder of the Armed Forces Thanksgiving, who died unexpectedly this summer at 59 years old.
