LINCOLN, Mich. — 12 families are displaced after a fire at Fountainview Apartments. The Lincoln Charter Township Fire Department says it happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday.
The department says they were called after reports of a dryer fire and learned that the fire had quickly spread as they were making it to the scene.
When firefighters arrived, they quickly were directed behind the building where they rescued 6 people from a third story window. They were all taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay.
They were assisted by the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, who posted to Facebook sharing some details of the rescue of a baby who had been trapped inside:
The Lincoln Charter Township Fire Department says the majority of the fire was contained to the apartment of origin. They also say all 12 units suffered water and smoke damage, leaving the 12 families displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The LTFP was assisted by Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, Royalton Twp. Fire Department, Lake Twp. Fire & Rescue, the Lincoln Twp. Police Dept., and Michigan State Police.
