5K to benefit nonprofits that support those who have lost infants, pregnancies

The Baby Steps 5K is back in Kalamazoo on Saturday as we near the start of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — People in West Michigan will be pounding the pavement to bring awareness to pregnancy and infant loss in Kalamazoo this weekend.

The Baby Steps 5K is returning to Spring Valley Park on Saturday, Sept. 28. 

It aims to raise awareness for families across West Michigan and to honor children who have died. 

The race is organized by Forever Loved. It's a committee made up of Kristen Biehl, Christine Webb and Lauren Westerman.

Last year, the three women hosted the inaugural race, which raised more than $7,000 for nonprofits that serve families that are impacted by pregnancy and infant loss.

One of the nonprofits this year includes Amos Anchors, which was started by Biehl. It's a Kalamazoo based organization.

The 5K is Saturday morning. You can register on the day of with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. The race starts at 10 a.m., followed by a ceremony of remembrance at 11:30 a.m.
