BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — No one was injured after a technical problem caused a plane to skid off the runway at Battle Creek Executive Airport Thursday morning.
The plane had been attempting to land around 8:30 a.m. when the pilot lost control and skidded off the runway. Officials say it happened after the plane's nose wheel didn't deploy properly.
Police and other first responders arrived at the scene and closed two runways at the airport during the investigation. Officials were eventually able to get the nose wheel to lower and put the plane back in its hangar without incident.
The pilot was the only person on board. They were not injured.
“No one wants to experience a scare like this, but at the end of the day, this really is the best-case scenario because everyone was able to safely return home to their loved ones,” said Philip Kroll, aviation director.
Both runways were reopened by 9:35 a.m.
