Battle Creek Fire Department finds body one day after putting out blaze

The fire department initially reported there were no injuries in the fire after searching the residence twice.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Early Monday morning the Battle Creek Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 132 N. 22nd Street. It was believed there was someone inside the home.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire and smoke coming from the home. Crews put the fire out and the building was ventilated for smoke.

Firefighters entered the building to search for anyone inside, and after two searches they determined the home was unoccupied. No injuries were reported on the day of the fire.

On Tuesday, the fire department said they found the body of someone inside the home as they continued to investigate the cause of the flames. 

The investigation into the fire is ongoing, at this time the fire department did not have any further information to share.
