BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — The right lane of Eastbound I-94 was closed in Calhoun County Wednesday morning after a fatal crash, Michigan State Police say.
The crash happened at Exit 92 heading toward Battle Creek and Springfield.
The City of Battle Creek said they received a call about the crash around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. Previously they received a call from a driver saying the semi had passed them at a high speed.
Police told the city the 26-year-old truck driver lost control of the truck while driving on Eastbound I-94. They said the truck hit the guardrail before Exit 92 and an overhanging exit sign before coming to a stop against the overpass.
The driver, who was from New York, was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The right lane was closed for some time as crews processed and cleared the scene.
According to MDOT's MI Drive Map, the scene was cleared at 3:21 p.m. However, the city advised drivers to still use caution while driving in the area.
