EDWARDSBURG, Mich. — A bicyclist was hit and killed near Edwardsburg, not far from the Indiana border last night.

It happened just before 9 p.m. on U.S. 12 near Garver Lake Road. Police say 30 year old Austin Carter of Elkhart, Indiana, was riding his bike in the roadway when he was hit from behind by a 74 year old driver from Edwardsburg.

Police say Carter was wearing dark clothing and that his bicycle had no reflectors or lights on it -- indicating the driver simply did not see him in the road. Carter was taken to the hospital after the crash but died there for his injuries. The 74 year old was not hurt.
