GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Experience Grand Rapids is inviting you to take a Black History Tour of downtown Grand Rapids to commemorate Black History Month.

In 2017, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) asked Grand Rapids residents to share what they know about Black leadership and culture in the city.

All of the information and stories the community shared with DGRI have culminated in a 2-and-a-half-mile, 11-stop walking tour of the city.

Narrated by former City Commissioner and Urban League of West Michigan President, Joe Jones, the tour is self-guided and can be found by downloading the GR Walks smartphone app

Some of the stops on the tour include Fountain Street Church, which has hosted Malcolm X and Langston Hughes, and the statue of Mayor Lyman Parks, Grand Rapids' first African American mayor.
