GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A new host at WLAV has been announced.
Rock singer and songwriter Brian Vander Ark will be the afternoon host of Classic Rock 97 LAV in Grand Rapids.
Vander Ark is the lead singer of The Verve Pipe, a rock band formed in East Lansing in 1992.
He begins Monday, Oct. 30, and can be heard Monday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.
“I’m happy Brian has decided to join the LAV team. He matters to Grand Rapids, and this is a natural platform for him to continue to engage West Michigan music fans," Gregg Henson, Program Director, WLAV, said.
Vander Ark launched his career as a guitarist for a band called His Boy Elroy, before moving on to starting a band with his brother, Brad Vander Ark, called Johnny with an Eye. From there, the two formed The Verve Pipe with drummer Donny Brown and guitarist Brian Stout.
“I'm excited to add such a dynamic talent to our team right from our own backyard! I see Brian collaborating with our stations in West Michigan in many ways in the very near future," said Derek Falter the Vice President/Market Manager of Cumulus Media, which owns the station.
Some of the band's popular hits include their highest-charting single from 1997 "The Freshmen," and the most-played song from 2001, "Never Let You Down."
“I’m thrilled to join the team at WLAV. I look forward to not only playing the best in Classic Rock, but also to sharing stories from my humble beginnings in West Michigan, all the way to my rise to Rock stardom. I’m proud to be a part of the WLAV legacy," said Vander Ark.
