CALEDONIA, Mich. — Students of Caledonia High School had to evacuate the building Friday morning due to a gas leak. Caledonia Community Schools shared the announcement on Facebook.
They said the leak occurred due to excavation work being done on the property.
"Our immediate priority was ensuring the safety of all students, who have been promptly evacuated," read the school's statement.
The school had all students brought to Kraft Meadows Intermediate School as Consumers Energy was on-site investigating the leak.
The school shared a later update announcing they would be doing an early release of all high school students shortly after noon.
"We understand this situation may have caused concern, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time," read the update.
