MICHIGAN, USA — Several major cell providers are reportedly suffering outages. West Michigan is among the areas experiencing those issues.
AT&T, Verizon, Boost Mobile and Cricket Wireless are just some of the companies experiencing an uptick in spotty coverage, according to Down Detector.
The outages started between 3 and 5 a.m. Thursday, the site says.
13 ON YOUR SIDE received numerous texts Thursday morning of people saying they are having trouble with their network here in West Michigan.
AT&T said Thursday that most of the people affected by a nationwide service outage have cell service again, after hours without the ability to place calls, send texts or access the internet without wi-fi.
“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning," the spokesperson wrote. "Our network teams took immediate action and so far three-quarters of our network has been restored. We are working as quickly as possible to restore service to remaining customers.”
In an emailed statement, an AT&T spokesperson said about a quarter of affected customers are still without cell service.
Calhoun County 911 posted on X, formerly Twitter, shared what to do if you need to make an emergency call.
"AT&T wireless is currently experiencing a large-scale outage," they wrote. "If affected and have an emergency, first try using your cellular device to call 911 (911 may work in emergency mode). If unsuccessful with no other phones available, try WiFi calling (enable in settings)."
The carrier has more than 240 million subscribers, the country's largest.
“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them. We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored,” AT&T said in a statement.
Cricket Wireless had more than 13,000, the outage tracking website said Thursday. Verizon had more than 4,000 outages and T-Mobile had more than 1,900 outages. Boost Mobile had about 700 outages.
Verizon and T-Mobile both said in their statements they didn't experience outages.
“Verizon’s network is operating normally. Some customers experienced issues this morning when calling or texting with customers served by another carrier. We are continuing to monitor the situation,” Verizon said.
It's not clear what's causing the outages. The companies have not released any statements by the time of publication.
