WYOMING, Mich. — A local non-profit organization brought holiday cheer to a Wyoming family facing a difficult journey by bringing them Christmas presents and creating lasting memories for children whose mother is battling terminal cancer.
Shields of Hope, which has been supporting families in need for a decade, visited the Mitchell family home on Friday. They filled the residence with gifts and even arranged a special visit from Santa Claus.
Jeff Potter, an organizer with the non-profit, said the group's mission goes beyond simply providing material gifts.
"At the end of the day, we're helping provide something for these kids, memories for these kids, that they'll hopefully be able to take with them forever," Potter said. "That's what keeps us going. That's the important thing."
Shields of Hope is a non-profit organization run by local public safety professionals in West Michigan. Founded in 2014, the organization's mission is to "spread hope, love and encouragement to those in our community affected by cancer."
The group actively reaches out to women, children, men and families battling cancer, offering personal support to ensure patients and their loved ones know they are not alone in their fight. Shields of Hope also collaborates with other non-profit cancer organizations to expand its support network.
