GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — An iconic Grand Rapids restaurant is set for demolition after closing in 2020.

Charley's Crab, located off Market Avenue SW along the Grand River, will be demolished to make room for development along the river.

RDV Corp is preparing for the demolition and is currently awaiting setting a date once the city can confirm that all power and utilities have been turned off at the location.

“We continue to be excited by the community’s visioning work for sites along the riverfront, including the potential for 63 Market SW.  We are exploring opportunities for development and will share additional details as they become available," said RDV spokesperson Nick Wasmiller.

Charley's Crab closed its doors in March 2020, citing the COVID-19 shutdown of dine-in services as the cause. The restaurant opened in 1982.

RDV has submitted an application to demolish the building, however, an exact date for the demolition has not been announced.
