MUSKEGON, Mich. — The heavy Halloween snowfall put a damper on trick-or-treating and knocked out power for more than 40,000 people along the lakeshore.
Muskegon was hit especially hard with powerlines down across the county after the Halloween record-breaking snowfall for the county.
In Muskegon, the snowfall total as of 8 p.m. was 8.8'', a record for October 31, and the second-highest, single-day amount prior to Nov. 15. (On November 14, 1908, Muskegon received 16.0".)
Consumers Energy reported their crews are working to repair the downed lines and restore power. They hope to have power restored to all by the end of the day Wednesday. The full outage map can be found here.
However, while many are still without power the city of Muskegon is working with partners to open up warming centers around town to help people get out of the cold.
Here is a list of the warming centers the city named:
- Muskegon Rescue Mission open 24 hours
- Sim Ray Community Building at Smith Ryerson Park open today from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. 650 Wood St.
- Central Fire Station Community Room open today from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. 770 Terrace St
The City also said they will update their list as more centers open, their list can be found here.
