'The most loving people I've ever met' | Community puzzled by elderly couple's death

Michigan State Police investigators are calling the death of a Sidney Township couple a double homicide.

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. — Brittney Reed recalls the moments she found out it was the two people she's known since childhood who were killed in their home in Sidney Township.

"Just what happened, I'm very upset," said Reed.

While not yet confirmed by law enforcement, Reed and others who knew them say it's Virginia and Jessie Seward who were victims of what Michigan State Police are calling a double homicide.

"I was distraught, like how could something like that happen in a small town like this kind of thing," asked Reed.

Reed works at the Sheridan Dinner, and besides seeing the couple come at the restaurant, she said she would also see them at church, along with seeing Virginia at the grocery store where she once worked.

"She was just a super sweet older lady," said Reed. "She was always out supporting her grandkids."

While more information is yet to be released by the Michigan State Police on what exactly happened, they said the two were found dead on Wednesday.

Reed adds, their whole community is shaken by what happened.

"People are a little bit freaked out, maybe a little bit more cautious that someone in a small town like this had the ability to do that, especially to two very sweet and loving people," said Reed.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or silent observer.
