MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Consumers Energy will be hosting three community events in West Michigan to support and thank customers impacted by Tuesday's storms.
First, water will be distributed at Oakridge High School in Muskegon from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Then, free snow cones will be given away at Goodrich Park in Whitehall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Lastly, Consumers Energy will then host a hot dog meal and ice cream giveaway at Messiah Baptist Church of Grand Rapids from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Muskegon and Oceana counties are among the areas hardest-hit by the storms. Over 30% of Consumers Energy residents are without power as of Wednesday morning. Hundreds of crews have been working around-the-clock, and officials are hoping to have power fully restored by Thursday night. Over 50,000 people in Michigan are still waiting to get the lights back on.
After the storms wrapped up Tuesday, as much as 50% of the roads in Muskegon County were impassable due to downed trees and wires caused by 70 mph winds.
In addition to the Consumers Energy events, anyone without power who needs to cool off, get water or charge their devices is welcome at the Muskegon Township Hall until 6 p.m.
If you're still waiting for your power to be restored, you can keep an eye on real-time updates and estimated restoration times on the Consumers Energy outage map.
