NORTH MUSKEGON, Mich. — Authorities are warning swimmers about high levels of bacteria found at a North Muskegon beach Thursday.
The Annis Water Resources Institute at Grand Valley State University issued a contamination advisory for the Waterfront Sports Park on Muskegon Lake Thursday after a sampling found nearly four times the safe level of Escherichia coli (E. coli).
The contamination advisory for the beach remains in effect for Friday.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) lists "recent precipitation" and "heavy waterfowl presence" under the comments section of the advisory.
This is the fourth contamination advisory for the beach since 2009. The beach has also been closed due to high levels of bacteria twice since 2009.
The beach is monitored at least once a week.
You can get updates on the advisory, as well as find other data about the beach, on EGLE's website.
