On Tuesday morning, Coopersville East Elementary School went into a soft lockdown after the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department told them that a bear had been sighted in the area.
The bear was spotted south of Randall Street.
A soft lockdown is when teachers continue the day like normal within the building, but students that were on the playground were pulled inside.
The soft lockdown lasted about 40 minutes, according to an email sent to parents. The school ended the lockdown once police told them it was safe to let students outside again.
