MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Corrine’s Bakery and Restaurant is preparing for its second annual Thanksgiving community dinner, a tradition born from a legacy of giving back to the community.
The restaurant, named in honor of Corrine's grandmother, aims to serve a record 1,000 meals to those in need in West Michigan.
Corrine, the restaurant's owner, reflected on how her grandmother instilled the importance of community support in her family.
"This is what my grandmother did. She made sure that we knew how to keep it going, so we can train other kids how to give back," Corrine shared. "She would be very proud... she'd probably be in tears. If she was in the back, she'd be in the kitchen."
Last year, Corrine's Thanksgiving dinner served 617 meals. This year, the goal is to provide 1,000 meals, with volunteers already busy preparing for the big day.
"We came in and started prepping all the dressing, and they're back there getting the green beans, potatoes, potato salad, and all the vegetables cut," Corrine explained.
The dinner will feature a traditional spread with generous portions.
"Every plate will have chicken, ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, green beans, corn, rolls and a dessert," Corrine said. "They're going to get a lot, and we’re making sure they don’t go hungry at all."
Guests have the option to dine in or use the drive-thru for pickup. In addition to serving the community at the restaurant, the team is delivering meals to those who are homebound, including senior citizens in Muskegon Heights, Grand Haven, Ravenna, and surrounding areas.
"We have over 200 deliveries to do right now, and we have a lot of volunteers to help with that," said Corrine.
Homebound or senior citizens who wish to receive a meal are asked to place their orders by 8 p.m. on Wednesday. For more details or to place an order, please feel free to call 231-760-6809.
The meal will take place at 90 W. Broadway Avenue in Muskegon Heights.
As the holiday season begins, the Thanksgiving dinner at Corrine's Bakery and Restaurant stands as a testament to the power of community and the lasting impact of giving back.
