KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — A crash involving multiple trucks shut down an area of US-131 in Kalamazoo County for hours and sent two to the hospital, the Michigan State Police say.
The wreck happened in the southbound lanes near U Avenue Tuesday afternoon. The lanes remained closed for three hours while crews cleaned up.
Police say a semi truck was driving south on US-131, nearing a traffic light. The driver, a 49-year-old Parker City, Indiana man, failed to stop in time and rear-ended a Ram pickup truck that was towing a car-hauler.
The semi driver and the driver of the pickup, a 43-year-old Dolton, Illinois man, were sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe driving too fast for the wintery conditions and careless driving were factors in the crash, but it's unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors at this time.
Two storm systems hit the area Tuesday, making roads slushy and slick. Troopers are reminding drivers to slow down and allow more room between vehicles when you're driving through winter weather.
