OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Two people are injured following a crash involving three cars on EB I-96 on Saturday evening, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
According to MDOT, the crash shut down EB I-96 after 48th Avenue (Exit #19) around 5:10 p.m. The freeway reopened around 6:45 p.m.
OCSO said the initial investigation shows traffic on EB I-96 was slowing down due to an unrelated motorist assist.
A car driven by a 69-year-old Kentwood man failed to slow down and rear-ended a car driven by a 37-year-old Muskegon man, OCSO said. The Muskegon man's car then went sideways and hit a 21-year-old Nunica woman's car.
According to OCSO, the 69-year-old Kentwood man said he was injured and his passenger, a 40-year-old Kentwood woman, was also injured. The passenger was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries.
