GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A teenager who crashed a stolen car while running from police, leading to the death of his teenage passenger, will head to trial.
Armani Brown, who was 16 at the time of the incident, is facing five counts in connection to a deadly police chase last year:
- Second-degree murder
- Fleeing a police officer
- Receiving/concealing a stolen vehicle
- Reckless driving causing death
- Operating a vehicle without a valid license causing death
The chase happened on June 10, 2023. According to court documents, officers attempted to pull over Brown, who was driving a Hyundai Sonata that had been reported stolen earlier that day. Brown refused to stop and sped from the scene, leading police on a chase.
He crashed the car on the ramp from eastbound I-96 to southbound US-131. The passenger of the car, 16-year-old Amir Kevin-Emery Jones, was ejected from the car. He was killed.
Brown will now go to trial. It is unclear when that trial will begin.
