LAKELAND, Mich. — It's the spot where farmers, construction workers and neighbors stopped by for lunch every day.
Back in April, according to the Michigan State Police, a jeep ran a stop sign near North Greenville Road hitting a semi truck, sending it straight into the Five Corner Store.
There were no serious injuries, which is what owner Brett Ulanch said he's thankful for.
"A half hour from that we would have had a bunch of regulars in from Main farms that are in the area," said Ulanch. "So you know, it was lucky that would happen when it did."
The store has been around for the past 70 years, and on Tuesday, crews started the process to tear it all down.
"We knew right off the bat when the sunlight hit it that it was a possibility because there was a lot of damage, a lot of structural damage," said Ulanch.
While the building may be gone during one of the busiest times of the season.
"We're a little emotional," said Ulanch.
He said they're still planning for what's next.
"All our customers, we want to rebuild for them," said Ulanch. "And as of right now, that's that's kind of our plan. But if we can't, then we you know, then that's our next option"
